NID exam syllabus distribution

The NID exam is a design aptitude test given every year by the National Institute of Design for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions. The Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Preliminary and Mains will determine your admission to the program. It is expected that the National Institute of Design will release official notification on its official website about the NID examination. Students must familiarize themselves with all the topics covered in the NID exam syllabus to prepare for the design entrance exam. The  NID Exam syllabus is divided into three stages: Preliminary and Main Exam, Studio Test, and Personal Interview.

The NID exam syllabus for the DAT Prelims includes subjects like principles of drawing, innovation in design, theme development, imagination exercises, graphics and pictograms, compositional rules, design theory, etc.The NID DAT Mains syllabus will cover subjects like modelling, material manipulation, audio-visual exercises, the significance of body language, doodling, creative thinking, and similar themes.

Aspirants are advised to study Color Terminology, Design Development, Mood, Theme &Colour Interrelationship as part of NID syllabus. Design Theory, Elements & Principles of Design, Theme Development, Visual Logic, Memory Drawing, Exercises on Imagination, Imagination & Doodling, Graphics & Pictograms, 3D Visualization, Developing Observation, etc.

There are two stages to the NID Exam. The preliminary exam is the first phase. Objective questions worth 70 marks will make up Paper 1’s first half, while subjective questions worth 30 marks will make up Paper 2’s second half. There won’t be any derogatory evaluations.For students who pass the first stage, stage 2 is where the main exam will be held.

Students who have been selected for the NID-DAT (mains) exam after passing the NID-DAT (prelims) test are allowed to take it. Following the studio test on the day of the NID-DAT(mains) exam, candidates are usually asked to sit for a face-to-face interview with faculty members.

The stage II test will consist of practical exercises like sketching and drawing, building model crafts, group discussions, and presentations. A total of 100 points will be awarded for this exam. No points will be docked for incorrect responses.The test will be conducted in English medium only.To be admitted to the course of their choice, applicants must pass each step of the exam separately.
