Live sketching Competition conducted by Vismayam College of arts and media under the guidance of Mr. Hamsa for NIFT and NID students. The hustle and bustle of daily life were alluringly captured by the young mastermind into canvases making time standstill, Encapsulating depths and details of fleeting moments. A group of 12 students labored for two hours to create unique masterpieces. which consequently showed a different side of perception.

Judges and guidelines of the competition

Head on head tight competition judged by a panel of 2 experienced teachers Mr. Hamsa and Mr. Suresh. The competition guidelines were strictly implemented as a result, It made contestants think outside the box to accommodate the competition guidelines.

 

Given are the guidelines for the competition. 

  • Contestants must follow the competition theme.
  • Entries should use a pencil as a medium for sketching.
  • There is no limit to the number of images that an artist can submit.

 

The chosen area for sketching was the historically rich Mananchira and places adjacent to it. Mananchira is a manmade pond made by Zamorin Mana Vikrama in the 14th century. The laterite obtained as a result of excavating was used to build two palaces to the east and west. Originally built for the purpose of bathing Mananchira pond is now exclusively used as a freshwater resource by the municipality. Manachira gets its name from Manadevan samoothiri who ruled the Kozhikode. originally, called Mana-deven Chira( pond) later transformed to mana-an-chira.

 

Initially, the ground surrounding it was used as a playground. In 1994 under the authority of the collector of Calicut Mr. Amithab Kant the playground surrounding the Mananchira pond later remodeled into a park. It is considered to be the center of the city.

later evaluated sketches were awarded prizes accordingly. Young artists even with the guidelines and time restrictions were able to produce original, creative, and innovative live sketches.

Pencil sketching plays an important role in Architecture also, Competitive entrance exams like NATA and JEE have a dedicated section for drawing.
